On the quest for continuing improvement and always looking to better serve our students and guests, Gracie Barra Encinitas together with Gracie Barra Wear will launch a special Gi sale starting next Monday, July 22nd.
Here is the special deal:
1 - If you are a Gracie Barra student just bring in your old non-GB Gi from any brand. (Gracie Barra wear will donate those Gis in Brazil)
2 -Gracie Barra wear will prompt sell to you an Official Gracie Barra Gi for 50% of the regular price. (Please talk to our dear Avi Rubin the GB America Pro-shop representative Monday - Friday from 5pm-9pm)
Our goal is to have more consistency with our uniforms on the mats. Lets set the example and have the number 13 of the Gracie Barra Dojo etiquette well represented at our School:
“13. All students must wear the official Gracie Barra uniform. The uniform pants and top must be the same color.”
Note: That special promotion goes until August 15th.

Ximu coments on Champion’s visit
Since great champions must keep on moving, UFC welterweight title holder Georges Saint-Pierre arrived in Brazil yesterday to refine his game. The Canadian will be making his first title defense, since recovering it from the hands of Matt Serra, against John Fitch, in August.
To continue to put on a show in the octagon, St Pierre’s Jiu-Jitsu instructor in Canada, Bruno Molenga (Gracie Barra) sent his student to Barra da Tijuca on an exchange in the Gracie Barra home base. The champion will stay in Brazil until the 10th of June and until then will practice MMA and do his physical conditioning with the fighter Gustavo Ximu, and complete his Jiu-Jitsu routine at night.
GRACIEMAG.com contacted Ximu, who today took the champion to practice boxing at the Nobre Arte boxing academy and got ready to have a first roll with Saint-Pierre at GB.
“He came to work on his Jiu-Jitsu. He arrived yesterday and I took him to Nobre Arte today. The guy is really humble and good people, besides being a really good fighter. We had only one technical training session led by Claudio Coelho and he liked it a lot. The guys there at the academy couldn’t even believe their eyes, as everyone there is a fan. I was also under the impression he was bigger. Not that he’s small, but he weighs 84kg and on tv he looks bigger. I’m going to take him to practice boxing, wrestling and do physical conditioning with me to keep him active, but the main thing is Jiu-Jitsu,” said Ximu.

OCEANSIDE – Brightly colored mats cover the floor and line the walls at the Gracie Barra school for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Oceanside. The entryway is filled with trophies, medals and framed photographs showing honors earned over the years. The school is owned by third-degree black belt Marcelo Pereira, an extremely fit native of Brazil. At 41, he attributes his condition to 17 years of practicing the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu, which incorporates choke holds and applying pressure to joints to get an opponent to submit.
Pereira’s studio bears the name of Brazilian Carlos Gracie, who was a street fighter and boxer when he learned Jiu-Jitsu from a former Japanese champion who had moved to Brazil. Gracie refined the art to a style that mirrored the fighting on the streets. The school he pioneered has locations worldwide, including Pereira’s.

The newest location, in Temecula, is run by a former student. As a five-time Pan-American Jiu-Jitsu champion, Pereira recently became the 2005 champion in the Medium Heavy category for the black belt competition.
“Jiu-Jitsu is a way of life,” Pereira said. “It definitely changes you.”
